11:00 a.m. - NoonThis program presents Teresa of Avila as a model and guide for the contemporary spiritual journey. It includes an overview of the historical and cultural context within which Teresa lived, worked, and prayed as well as a profile of Teresa, the woman. Selected passages from Teresa’s major texts and letters will be used to examine her experiences with prayer, spiritual direction, and human relationships.
Each day will include time for prayer/reflection and discussion of ways in which the teachings of this 16th century mystic and saint are relevant in today’s world.

Lecture and Discussion: 10:30 a.m. - NoonFor nearly a year, Mary Jeremy has been a visiting scholar at Mount Saint Agnes Theological Center for Women. She has been hard at work on a book that will detail the history of the movement for the ordination of women in the Catholic Church, with particular attention to figures central to that effort in the United States. In this program, Mary Jeremy will report on her progress and indicate where the research will next take her.

Evening: 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.Women are facing end of life issues regarding beloved others or themselves as we contemplate the mysteries of our life on earth and its necessary limitation. Diane will consider some ethical dilemmas that result from our advanced technologies, offer principles for thinking through such dilemmas and cull from the literature best practices regarding advance directives, living wills, etc.

The Advent program will subject these readings to the kind of imaginative interpretation that has become a hallmark of Mount Saint Agnes Theological Center for Women, seeking to find in them redeeming truth for all. Presentations will include selected artistic renderings.

OngoingCultural anthropologist and writing woman, Kathy Kavanagh, is undertaking to study the culture that has been created by the coming to life of the unique theological center for women called Mount Saint Agnes. To do this, she will interview those who participate, staff, members of the Board of Trustees, Directors and members of the sponsoring body, the Sisters of Mercy. It is our hope that this work will issue in a publication that will make Mount Saint Agnes Theological Center for Women nationally known, that is, to let the secret out, and invite many others to support this important and unusual work of mercy.
